Karolyi talks about how when he was a trainer for Leko that the main thing that they worked on in the endgame was to go through many of Karpov’s endgames. In the extensively analysed examples, the author tends to rely heavily on engame publicized analysis by others I have been curious what he did find out, while analysing with Leko A highly instructive and entertaining book.
More than any of the greats, Karpov was noted as the master in the endgame of the seemingly innocuous, “quiet” Pawn move that didn’t seem to doing much. Aside from an index in the back on who Cirtuoso played, the really useful reference is the table in the back called Endgame Classification.
And definitely not for a Club player just starting out.

John rated it really liked it Jul 14, By the way, although I have read and still occasionally use Smyslov’s endgame book, I was a bit disappointed by it. All of Karolyi’s book are great. But after the game was over, the smoke cleared, a win for Karpov, deep analysis found that puzzling move 7 or 13 moves back was the key point in pulling a win from a sure draw.
Second the above comments. I have Vasily Smyslov: A karopv instructive and entertaining book. Customers who bought this item also bought. Amazon Second Chance Pass it on, trade it in, give it a second life. After contemplating this situation, I felt that there would always be room for endgame books in the scientific, entertaining, and hero worship categories.
